Simple Makeup Tips to Save you Money

For all you fans of curling up on the couch to watch your favorite tearjerker, the last thing you want to worry about is ruining that $38 mascara when it comes to that heart-wrenching speech at the end of the movie; you know, the one that turns on the tears like a faucet! Because, let’s face it, many of us would be in the “ugly crier” category without the trusted tools of the beauty trade that is our makeup. The good news is, you don’t have to break the bank when it comes to your cosmetics. So, bring on the tears, because we’ve got some simple and affordable makeup tips for you to try!

Use it, if you got it

We don’t mean your signature strut here (but then again, why not? It’s always had heads turning). We’re talking about not being so quick to toss out your makeup before it’s actually all used up. After all, you can recycle some of the contents of your makeup bag and extend its usable life. You can even repurpose it! Try melting 2 different shades of leftover lipstick together in a microwave safe container and mix together with a toothpick for a hot new color that pops!

Sample the goods

We all love an impulse buy but when it comes to cosmetics, it really is important to try things out on your skin before you buy them. Most cosmetic counters have samples you can apply to make sure you choose the correct shade for your skin. After all, that $40 eye-shadow might look great in the case, but on your eyes, it just doesn’t look right.

Good to the last drop

If you really are springing for pricey mascara, you’re going to want to get your money’s worth! If you’re inclined to toss it when it starts getting that bottom of the tube dryness – don’t! Drop it in a cup of hot water to loosen up and revive the remaining mascara. You’ll be amazed at how many more times you can apply it!

Speaking of mascara

Sometimes, your favorite part of that mascara is the lush, perfectly bristled applicator. No need to throw it out! When that pricey eye-enhancing magic is gone, keep the applicator and even downgrade to a less expensive brand. Sometimes the real magic is in the tool! Just rinse it thoroughly in hot water, dry it and plop it in its’ new home!

Do – choose products with dual-purpose

What makes more sense (and saves more dollars and cents) than incorporating 1 product that serves 2 purposes? If you love the look of a cream blush, get it in a shade of lipstick you can wear both on your lips and your cheeks! Not only is it a great way to maximize the life of your makeup, it will have you pulling off that perfect color match that looks like you just came from the salon!

A smile might be the best makeup a girl can wear, but it doesn’t hurt to pair it with some tried and true products that make that smile just a little bit brighter! Don’t be afraid to get some tips on how to get the look you’re after without spending a small fortune, from a local makeup artist. Sometimes, knowing how to apply the right makeup can save you not just money, but can help prevent the makeup mayhem you might encounter without a professional’s advice!
