Matrix "Think. Believe. Dream. Dare" Cosmetology Student Scholarship

Matrix “Think. Believe. Dream. Dare” Cosmetology Student Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 1, 2025

Scholarship Description & Award Information
MATRIX, a leading professional hair care and hair color company in the United States, is part of L’Oreal USA’s Professional Products Division.

Matrix was founded in 1980 by the American husband and wife hairdressing team, Arnie and Sydell Miller. Before he founded Matrix, Mr. Miller was a hairdresser for over 20 years. Mr. Miller decided to try his hand at running a different kind of company in 1971, when he developed individually applied eyelashes. He formed a firm, Ardell, to market the product to retailers and to beauty salons. Ardell eventually created and sold a hair color product.

In the late 1970s, Mr. Miller saw that the retail market was shrinking and decided to sell Ardell in 1980 in order to concentrate on building Matrix, which would market its products only to professional hair care buyers.

“I felt that in order to be successful, I needed more focus. I chose the professional end because I knew the business and I liked it better,” he said.

The Millers wanted to provide hairdressers with a comprehensive range of products that would help them grow their businesses and provide the means to take full advantage of their talent and creativity.

Now, over two decades later, the Millers’ original ideas still stand strong, and Matrix is committed to the development of the salon professional, offering a wide range of hair care, hair color and texturizing products.

Matrix is committed to empowering salons, stylists and students through accessible education and competitive, easy-to-use products. Through inspiration and innovation, Matrix supports hairdressers of every level to achieve their dreams and Imagine All They Can Be.

Matrix was built on real relationships and connections with hairdressers. You are the heart and soul of Matrix and the voice of our brand. We are committed to providing you with inspiration, support and value to bring the best to the lives of those you touch.

L’Oréal Professional Products LGBTQIA+ Scholarship - Honoring Jeff DeShazer

L’Oréal Professional Products LGBTQIA+ Scholarship – Honoring Jeff DeShazer

Application Deadline: November 1, 2025

Scholarship Description & Award Information

It is with both profound sadness for our loss and immense joy for his legacy that we announce the establishment of a very special scholarship, created in memory of our unforgettable colleague, mentor, and friend, Jeff DeShazer.

Jeff wasn’t just a hairdresser; he was a true luminary in the beauty industry, a man whose passion for hair, for education, and for people was simply infectious. From the moment he graduated from Independence School of Cosmetology in 2007, Jeff knew he had found his calling. He wasn’t just building a career; he was building a community. He went on to own his own salon, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and skill.

His journey then led him to L’Oréal in 2015, where his talents truly flourished. Jeff embraced every role with his signature blend of enthusiasm and expertise, from Shows & Events Manager at SalonCentric to Business Development Manager at Pulp Riot, and as a Redken Educator. But it was his most recent role as Sr. Manager of Education for the L’Oréal Schools Division that truly captured his heart. He didn’t just teach; he inspired, he encouraged, he championed every single cosmetology student. His greatest joy was seeing them discover their own potential, just as he had.

Beyond his incredible professional achievements, Jeff was a beacon of inclusivity. As a proud member of the LGBTQIA community, he was a passionate advocate within L’Oréal Professional Products’ DE&I movement, ensuring that equality and belonging were at the forefront for everyone. His commitment to making the world a more welcoming place was as inspiring as his commitment to beauty education.

Jeff’s unexpected passing in June 2024 left a profound void, but his legacy shines brightly. His radiant smile, his magnetic personality, and his boundless passion will forever be remembered by countless individuals he touched across the cosmetology industry.

Through this scholarship, we aim to empower aspiring stylists to follow their dreams, just as Jeff encouraged us all to do.

The Leo Passage “Dare to Lead” Cosmetology and Barbering Student Scholarship

In partnership with Beauty Changes Lives, Pivot Point International is proud to announce the creation of two prestigious scholarships in 2025 for both students and educators to honor the legacy of our founder, Leo Passage. A world-renowned hairdresser, passionate educator, and trailblazing visionary, Leo Passage built a career rooted in three core values: bravery, curiosity, and the power of sharing knowledge.

Leo’s bravery was evident early in his life when, as a young boy, he helped Jews escape persecution during World War II, risking his own safety to stand up for others. His boundless curiosity drove him to leave his home country in Europe with only $75 in his pocket, embarking on a journey to the United States to see the world and pursue new opportunities. And his commitment to sharing knowledge transformed the beauty, barbering and wellness industry—Leo pioneered an entirely new way of teaching that continues to empower students and educators around the globe.

These Spring & Fall season scholarships aim to celebrate and inspire individuals who embody these principles, ensuring Leo’s legacy lives on through the next generation of students and education leaders.
