DIY Natural Makeup Looks
The whole point of makeup is to enhance the natural features you were born with. But sometimes it can be a challenge to actually create that natural “I was born this way” look everyone tries to replicate. So, how do you put together an au-naturelle look that doesn’t look so put together? Simple! You do-it-yourself! Check out our tips for getting that fresh-faced DIY natural makeup look you always wanted.
But first
Before you dive right into creating any kind of look, natural or otherwise, it may be a good idea to connect with someone who is passionate about all things beauty, skin and makeup. Consider consulting with a beauty professional such as a student in training at Continental School of Beauty, a licensed cosmetologist, or a licensed esthetician. These current and future beauty experts can provide tips, tricks, product recommendations and skincare regimen advice, so that you can get the most out of your natural makeup look.
Start with a clean slate
In other words, treat your skin like the important canvas it is and cleanse, tone, and moisturize to prep it for the transformation it’s about to undergo.
Also, factor in two things when you select a moisturizer. What skin type are you and what season is it? For dry skin or winter weather, choose a heavier, more hydrating moisturizer to offset the drying effects of the cold, dry air. Oily skin or summer weather your best choice is an oil free, lightweight moisturizer. You get the picture. Pick the right product for maximum benefits.
Keep concealer to a minimum
If you absolutely must cover a blemish or the random dark spot, dab a sheer concealer only where you need it. As a general rule for a natural look, try to limit concealer to the corners and hollows of your eyes and blend it in gently with your fingertips.
Become a master mixer
Have you ever stood in front of a makeup counter staring at endless rows of foundation in endless shades trying to find a match for your skin tone? The struggle is real! But it doesn’t have to be. The solution can be to find a few shades and do a little mixing to discover the perfect blend, and the perfect match. Be sure to select lightweight foundation or even just tinted moisturizer to keep it real and natural.
Be a buffer
Once you’ve uncovered the magic formula, use a good quality buffing brush or sponge to get that smooth, un-made up look you’re going for. Buff it in until you can’t buff anymore and finish with a translucent powder to eliminate any shine.
Skip bright blush and lipstick
To show off that natural look, opt for a nude shade of lip color or just a barely tinted lip balm instead of bright, bold colors. And dust a little bronzer across your nose, cheekbones and hairline for a just barely sun-kissed look.
Whatever look you’re going for in the moment, there’s no question makeup is a magical tool for helping us all shine. So, have some fun experimenting with your look and tapping into your inner beauty artist. And if creating signature and trending looks sounds like your dream job, you might be perfect for a future in cosmetology.
