Five Ways to Practice Self-Care at Home
Looking for ways to practice self-care at home? If the daily grind is starting to grind a little too hard, we’ve got great news – September is National Self-Care Awareness Month. What does that mean for you? It’s the perfect excuse to indulge in a little (or a lot) of well-deserved me time! So, if giving yourself a little TLC has been on the back burner, it’s time to take a break and check out these five great ways to practice self-care in the comfort of your own home.
DIY Facial
What better way to practice self-care than with a luxurious facial that leaves your skin looking and feeling great? Create a nourishing face mask with ingredients that are right in your kitchen and pantry! Combine one egg yolk with a tablespoon each of honey and olive oil. Mix together with half a cup of oatmeal and apply to your face for 15 min. Rinse with lukewarm water. Egg yolks tighten the skin and between the soothing effects of the oatmeal, the antibacterial properties of the honey, and the moisturizing nature of olive oil, you’ve got the perfect recipe for your self-care facial.
Mood Music
This self-care suggestion is a no brainer, but some people may not think of it as self-care. One of the most powerful ways to decompress and banish anxiety and stress is by finding time to jam out to your favorite tunes on a regular basis. Studies have shown that music can reduce cortisol levels, which is a stress hormone in our body, which in turn tends to have a positive effect on the immune system. So, gather up all your faves and make a self-care playlist.
Give Yourself A Makeover
If you’ve been wanting to play around with a new look, go old school and have a makeover day. Plant yourself in front of a mirror with an assortment of makeup you’ve been wanting to try and have some fun experimenting. It’s a great way to reinvent your look or just have some fun with looks you’d never leave the house in.
Soak it Out
There’s never a bad time for a long, hot bath. Unfortunately, there’s usually not enough time to really sink in and enjoy it. Get some skin soothing bath salts, light a fragrant candle, put on that playlist, and soak it up. Your inner self will thank you.
Take Nap
You probably never thought a nap would become a luxury. In the hectic world we live in, it can be a treat like no other! Draw the blinds, kick on the AC, and throw on a weighted blanket to help you get the most out of your nap. After all, who doesn’t need a few extra zzz’s?
