Holiday Makeup Tips
It’s safe to say that the holidays bring out our inner desire to add a little extra shimmer and shine to life. You know, decking the halls and all that jazz. But while you’re hanging the mistletoe and decorating the house, why not greet the season with a hot new look that could literally melt the ice off an igloo? After all, tis the season to turn heads. To help you do just that, we’ve rounded up some holiday makeup tips that just might add a little more spark to your everyday sparkle.
1. Luscious lip-service
Never mind naked, neutral lips. This holiday season calls for a full, bold lip that accents your look. Accentuate what you’ve got by using a slightly darker lip liner to outline your pout and pair that gorgeous red, burgundy, or blackberry-colored dress with an equally gorgeous and matching shade for your lips.
2. Levitate your lashes
To the next level of lush. Use an eyelash curler to prep your lashes and apply a couple coats of lengthening mascara from the roots to the tips. If the struggle is real for you when it comes to applying mascara, you can also try applying some ready to go false eyelashes instead.
3. Let that smokey eye shine
It’s almost like the smoky eye was invented for the holiday season. Start with a cream eye shadow in a neutral shade from your lash line to the crease of your eye and blend. Apply the same shade along your lower lash line. Next, apply a gel eyeliner along your lash lines and extend them beyond the outside corners. Quickly layer your shade of smokey shadow over the liner before it dries using a fine eye liner brush and apply along lower lash line. Complete the look with multiple coats of mascara on top and bottom lashes.
4. Brows that bring it
Full, defined brows are the perfect accessory to eyes that pop. If yours are a little less than full, don’t be scared to take an eyebrow pencil or pigment powder to those bad boys to give them a little more definition.
5. Make things merry with metallic
Silver and gold are holiday mainstays. But you can amp up your holiday look with bronze, rose gold or copper eye shadow at the corners of your eyes. Be sure to use the metallic shade that matches your complexion. For fair skin, light gold or champagne colored shadow is a winner. Darker skin tones shine with bronze shadow or rose gold.
6. All that glitters
What is a holiday without a little sparkle? If you’re a fan of all things that glitter, this is the perfect time to pull out the actual glitter. Look for a long-wearing liquid glitter eyeshadow. Pair with pale pink lips or go bold with a rich, deep red. Either way, get your glitter on!
7. Mix and match
For a holiday look that begs you to be seen, take the smokey eye up a notch by choosing a deep red shadow and accent it with a metallic eye shadow applied towards the corners of your eyes. Bring your liner out a little farther to create a wing effect and finish with mascara.
Fortunately, the holiday season is just that, a season. Meaning it’s going to go on for a few months.
